Laos Festivals

Known as a land of festivals and celebrations, Laos celebrates many annual festivals called “Boun” in the Lao language which are particularly enjoyable and beautiful, signifying traditional aspects of Lao lifestyle. Lao people like to party and enjoy festivals as long as possible. However, while they are all celebrated with enthusiasm, the majority of these festivals are based on the Buddhist faith that dominates the country and hold an important religious significance for Lao people. They are largely linked to agricultural seasons or historical Buddhist holidays. The timing of the festivals is calculated according to the Buddhist lunar calendar, thus changing every year. If you are planning to travel to Laos, it is worth trying to take some time to enjoy these special times with the locals, who will welcome your joining any festive event.
Below I have listed the major festivals in order of occurrence throughout 12 months of the year.
