The elegant and charming Vientiane would take you days and nights to explore amazing places, try the mouth-watering food and awe-inspiring experience. Do not hesitate to make your Laos tours colorful with a visit to Patuxai Victory Monument.

    Patuxai Victory Monument Overview

The constructions were from 1957 to 1968 funded by the U.S government
The name of the monument originated from the Sanskrit words which mean door or gate and victory.
There are four arches facing West, East, South and North
The building consists of administrative offices, a gift shop and galleries
Surrounded with palm trees and lotus ponds, there is Patuxai Park where you can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the best views of the surrounding landscape.

    Patuxai Victory Monument Highlights

Erected between 1962 and 1968, the monument was constructed to memorized people who devoted their lives to protecting Laos from the control of the French. Also known as ‘Victory Gate’, Patuxai Victory Monument is actually a living masterpiece of Laos in general and Vientiane in particular. Visitors, especially first-timers to Patuxai Victory Monument would be mesmerized with the structural style that is inspired by the traditional Laos style. The highlight of the architecture lies in its five ornate towers on the top. With a height of 55 meters and width of 24 meters, Patuxai Victory Monument’s architecture was under the inspiration of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France; however, it still represents impressive traditional Laos structural style.

Explore the interior of the monument, you, for sure, will be taken aback by impressive Buddhist symbols, including stupa-shaped towers, lotus leaves as well as animist hinnaru statues. Moreover, the walls and ceilings are decorated with symbols of elephants, goddesses and gods. There is no better way than climb to the top to capture a panorama of the whole landscape, the old-fashioned city with trees, buildings, temples and the view over the Mekong River.
